Since 2004, the Oregon Center for Nursing has tracked key statistics about nursing supply in Oregon. This vital information on our nurse workforce is essential for policymakers and workforce planners.
Information in the charts and maps below come from data collected during the nurse licensure and re-licensure process. In Oregon, nurses renew their license every two years, at which time a demographic/workforce survey is completed. Nurses who have recently obtained their Oregon nursing license will not take the workforce survey until their first renewal. Therefore, newly licensed nurses are not reflected in these demographic data. To understand the total supply of nurses in Oregon and take into consideration newly licensed nurses, OCN uses a method to estimate the number of practicing licensees. The employment rate of licensees completing the survey is applied to the newly licensed individuals (and those who did not complete the survey) to estimate the number of practicing individuals.
