Introduction to Pre-brief and Debrief

 This course presents the fundamental principles used to plan and implement the pre-briefing and debriefing phases of SLE. Approaches to creating a learning centered environment during the pre-briefing will be discussed. The three-phase organizational structure for conducting debriefing will be presented and a variety of debriefing techniques used in the analysis phase of debriefing will be explored. Common debriefing frameworks will be discussed and the attributes of each will be considered. This course is designed for novice to competent simulation educators and is a pre-requisite for the Debriefing for Clinical Judgment Course. Advanced simulation educators are welcome to attend but may waive this course as a pre-requisite.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe three pre-briefing tactics used to create a learner centered approach to SLE.
  2. Identify the defining characteristics for each of the three phases used to organize a debriefing.
  3. Demonstrate two or more debriefing techniques.
  4. Compare 3 common debriefing frameworks used in SLE.
